Shelter Advocate

Organization and Position Summary
For the past 36 years, Family Pathways, a non-profit organization, has developed and offered programs to communities in East Central Minnesota.  In 2009, our services were expanded to Polk County Wisconsin.  Our nine Food Shelves, four Teen Centers, Youth Services, Senior Services, and The Refuge Network services are offered to individuals at no charge.  The primary purpose of our thrift stores (currently nine and growing) is to provide funding for these programs.  Family Pathways' mission is to work with communities to develop supportive, caring relationships helping people meet their basic needs.
 
Family Pathways/The Refuge Network operates an emergency shelter/safe housing facility for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.
 
Major Responsibilities
* Proivide crisi intervention, direct client advocacy, and support services to victims of domestic violence.
* Supervise daily living activities at the Shelter
* Conduct intake/discharge procedures with each client
* Conduct needs assesstment, make referrals and identify services necessary
* Establish a safety plan with all residents
* Provide transportation for clients as needed
* Complete documentation as required for incidents and accident prevention
* Be a positive role-model to parents and youth
* Establish clear and consistent expectations as regards personal behavior
* Maintain clean work areas and insure residents areas are maintained by residents
* Create and maitain client files
* Document statistics in a timely and accurate fashion
* Provide a montly summary of activities to the Shelter Supervisor
 
Qualifications
  • Minimum of High School diploma or GED; or college degree in related field
  • Ability to maintain flexible hours 
  • Have reliable transportation, valid insurance, and clean driving record
  • Basic computer skills
  • Knowledge of Minnesota Data Practices Act
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality with client and agency-senstive information
  • Ability to efffectively communicate
  • Ability to stand, sit, walk, bend, lift, use hands to finguer, handle or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms.
  • Ability to lift and/or move 50 pounds

The Refuge Network (a program of Family Pathways) is a multi community organization whose primary mission is to provide supportive services for perople who are currently involved in or have been in an abusive relationship.  The Refuge Network believes that no one deserves to be abused and therefore seeks ways to end domestic violence.

Major Responsibilities
The Community  Advocate will work in the Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Advocacy Program that provides direct services including criminal and civil court advocacy, crisis intervention, support group facilitation, and hospital advocacy as well as trainings and community education.

Qualifications
College degree is preferred. Must be able to commit to an on call rotation, must have valid driver’s license, valid car insurance and clean driving record.

Experience and attributes
Experience providing advocacy, excellent communication and listening skills, ability to problem solve and multi task, works well independently and with others, can adapt to change on a daily basis, works well under pressure, comfortable with public speaking.

Compensation:
$12.50 - $14.00 per hour, depending on qualifications

Refuge Network Shelter Supervisor

Position title: Refuge Network Shelter Supervisor

Qualifications: College degree perferred with two years experience/knowledge of domestic violence and sexual asault advocacy, supervisory experience,  group facilitation experience, knowledge of shelter operations, ability to provide direct services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault, ability to publicly speak, excellent verbal and written skills, an understanding of teamwork, ability to multi-task, computer proficiencty and the ability to maintian flexible hours.

Primary responsibilities:  Supervising delivery of emergency crisis intervention services and shelter services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assualt, ensure victim safety, confientilality and respect, hold self and staff accountable to professional boundaries of services provided with a client-centered approach, oversee the daily operations of the shelter operations, supervise shelter staff and ensure accurate data collection and statistics, provide transporation for clients when necessary.
